Better understanding the heat transfer between the surface of a workpiece and the cooling medium occuring during the immersion quenching process requires accurate estimation of Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) [1,2]. In this paper an inverse heat transfer formulation based on an iterative regularization alogorithm is outlined which is developed for evaluation of HTC during heat treatment. The applicability of the inverse heat transfer methodology is demonstrated on an example.
